Ben Smith is Auckland Branch Committee Member and Branch Secretary of the New Zealand Computer Society, which works hard to improve both the education and professional development of those broadly working with computers and technology and the computer-related education of the country as a whole. Committed to the NZ Computer Society's work in developing and applying Experience, Ethics, Education and Engagement in this area, he was also previously a Core Body Of Knowledge Committee Member and ICT Connect Committee Member there. Ben is also Chairman of the Young IT Professionals Group (YITPG) at the NZ Computer Society, and works on the professional development of future generations.

Currently Systems Administrator/Engineer at Datacom NZ, he has held posts as Systems Engineer at Business Mechanix, IT Specialist at Boffa Miskell and IT Support at Manukau City Council.

He completed an Australian Computing Society Masters in 2010, following Microsoft Learning (MCSE) qualifications in 2009 and a BinfSci (Info Sys, Marketing) at Massey University.
